Career Change - From Chef To Nurse

Career Change - From Chef To Nurse

Written by Jubin (Jimmy) Katar

When Covid hit for the first time, not only did I lose a few friends and family members, but also my job was at stake. I am an ex-chef and hospitality was the worst hit during this pandemic. I worked in hospitality sector for about 20 years and it was time that I wanted to do something for the community and help the people in need.

I'm a person of mature age, the idea of changing career didn't seem quite easy. My mom retired as a nurse, and apart from her I also have a few friends and relatives in the healthcare sector, therefore, I was kind of aware of this fraternity. It was then that I decided to take it up professionally. However, I wasn't sure how well I would cope with studies at 40+ of an age.

When I got to know about 'Diploma of Nursing', a dear friend advised that it would be wise to take baby-steps and go for it rather than rushing for the degree course straight away. Today I have completed my diploma and I feel my biggest achievement was to get myself enrolled because completion came in easy as 2 years went by so quick.

My motto - The future depends on what you do today…don’t limit yourself…begin somewhere.. I would like to share my story to motivate anyone who is willing or maybe even thinking of a career transformation. Go for it 'cause it's never too late to study and gain new skills.' In turn, you could help yourself to find the path to where your heart belongs and gain satisfaction.

Very aptly related the new profession which you chose to the new situation of pandemic covid. However, the knowledge of life sciences is always good for the betterment of one’s life. As you say that 40 years of age is a little bit more of an age for starting a new venture, I don’t agree with you. Knowledge can be gained at any age.You Very rightly said that what we are today, is the outcome of our yesterday’s efforts. Proud of you. Keep the spirits up and gain new achievements in the profession and life. Well done.
